A foundation, Zaccheus Onumba-Dibiaezue Memorial Libraries, and the Stanbic IBTC Bank have presented a library to Araromi Baptist and Ereko Methodist primary schools in Lagos.
The two bodies said they entered into a partnership to build a good foundation for the pupils at the basic education level.
Chief Executive Officer of the foundation, Ufuoma Esiri, said the gesture was part of the foundation’s efforts aimed at ensuring that pupils have access to well-equipped libraries.
Esiri said, “The importance of libraries to education cannot be overemphasised. What we are doing in collaboration with our partners is to identify public primary schools which lack this all-important educational facility on Lagos Island and provide them with this facility.
“We have done this in a number of schools and we hope to have this in 20 schools before 2105. It will be a welcome development to have well trained librarians deployed by the state government to man them. But in the absence of this we will request corps members to assist with the guidance of these children.”
Head of Legal Services at Stanbic IBTC Holdings Plc, Angela Omo-Dare, said the company partnered with the foundation to equip the library with books as part of its corporate social responsibility.
Assistant Director, Basic Education Services, Lagos State Ministry of Education, Olayiwola Sanni-Owo, stated that the library would go a long way in ensuring that the pupils imbibe the reading culture at the early stage.
