Ronaldo De Assis Moreira (Ronaldinho) and Atletico-MG have both agreed to end company on mutual consent as revealed by coach of the Brazilian club, Levir Culpi.
The decision was taken at a meeting on Monday between Ronaldinho, his brother cum agent and manager, Roberto De Assis and the Atletico-MG board.
“Ronaldo ended the cycle for us, unfortunately. He is an idol to us all, everyone likes the football that he plays, very charismatic, but that’s how it works. Ronaldinho is leaving and we will go on without him”- Levir said in an interview with sportv.
It is believed that Ronaldinho signed a one year contract extension this year in January and was expected to see out the remainder of the deal but the player’s desire to discontinue with the relationship could not be ignored by the club.
Atletico-MG are 11th in the Campeonato Brasiliero Serie A. The Belo Horizonte based club suffered a 1-2 loss away to Sport last Sunday but must now face Atletico Paranaense on the 3rd of August without their most talismanic no. 10 man at the Estadio Independencia.
Ronaldinho joined the Atletico-MG in June of 2012 on a six-month contract just days after leaving Flamengo. He played over 80 times scoring 28 and assisting 28 times as well during his sojourn in Belo Horizonte.
